Missile and Space Systems Electronic Maintenance

Air-launched cruise missiles are key weapons in the Air Force's arsenal. Several versions of air-launched missiles are in our inventory now, with new missiles planned for the future. As a member of the 2M0X1B AFSC, you will be responsible for maintaining the entire Air Force inventory of cruise missiles. You'll need top-secret security clearance. Once trained, the typical month for a 2M0X1B technician consists of working Monday through Friday, either on day shift or swing shift. Some bases rotate shifts with the local college schedule. Your weekends are free except for exercises and inspections, when everyone works 12-hour shifts. Your duties will include all aspects of missile maintenance. You will replace missile components, including turbojet engines, guidance and control subsystems and wiring harnesses. You will diagnosis and repair faults; prepare aircraft for maintenance; and operate, maintain and calibrate high-tech test equipment. This is a very stable AFSC. The duty locations are limited (three locations, all in the continental U.S.), which means you'll stay in one place longer (unless you pursue an assignment). This will provide you a greater opportunity to pursue a college degree. Completing the tech school for this AFSC will earn you 30 hours of college credit with the Community College of the Air Force in addition to the hours you receive for Basic Military Training. Also, the 2M0XX AFSCs are unique in that they are already deployed for contingencies - you will not be sent to foreign countries as a member of a 2M0XX AFSC. You will already be in place for whatever is needed for our country's defense. You will not be a member of an expeditionary Air Force as a 2M0X1B. Once you have your five skill level, your follow-on opportunities are ALMM duty in Guam, ICBM maintenance technician, space lift maintenance technician (all U.S. space lift launches are from Cape Canaveral AFS, FL, or Vandenberg AFB, CA), electronics laboratory technician, research and development technician, ICBM/ALMM test launch maintenance, instructor duty and depot maintenance technician. Duties in this AFSC will prepare you for numerous civilian careers, if you choose to leave the Air Force. Some civilian jobs you'll be prepared for are electronics repair, logistics manager and defense contractor logistics. PAY CHART
